Get Lich or Die Tryin’…

by Dave

You may or may not have noticed that things have kind of slowed down here on CONVOKE for the last few months, and if you’ve seen our latest project, you might have guessed why.  Not only was the video a massive undertaking, but it also represents a shift in focus here at CONVOKE.  We’re not going to flat-out stop posting cool tech and design finds, but we’re going to try and start producing our own unique content.

And, as far as first tries go, Get Lich or Die Tryin’ has been an astronomical success, so far.  With over 40,000 (and climbing) views in just two days, it has definitely caught people’s attention.  The video has been popping up all over the internet, so we cataloged the best of the best right here for you.

Here’s the press wrapup:

wow.com – My interview with Lisa Poisso gives you a peek behind the scenes, as well as some hints at what’s next for us.  Don’t forget to post a comment in the t-shirt giveaway thread for your shot at a free shirt.

kotaku.com – Mike Fahey saw it fit to put the video up on Kotaku, as well as share in our hatred for a certain sparkly bloodsucker…

Digg.com – We managed to make it onto the digg frontpage for a brief time today, which is a first for one of our ventures.

YouTube.com -I don’t know exactly how YouTube ranks videos, but we were on the “most viewed” page for a while today.  Here’s proof! Then I, foolishly, edited our video info, which apparently causes YouTube to yank you out of the running for a bit.  Epic fail.

And last, but not least, I received an email today from a Blizzard employee who shall remain nameless.  It’s short, but sweet.

Subject: Nice work

We loved the video over here

I will take this as an unofficial sanction, and go forth bathed in a Blue Blessing.

But we aren’t finished.  We’ve got behind the scenes photos and footage on the way, and potentially even a remix.  Thanks again to the cast and crew, and everyone who’s been watching the video.

We loved the video over here J

Movember

by Dave

Mo Logo Stacked LargeOkay, so I’m not always the most socially conscientious person in the world, but when I found out how I could get behind a good cause like this, I decided to give it a go. So here’s the deets, Movember (portmanteau of Mustache and November) is a worldwide month long awareness campaign for prostate cancer. You can donate, join the CONVOKE team, or get more information from my donation profile. Please help out a worthwhile cause, and I promise to not disappoint.

Rasputin and the Misbegotten Trinity

by Adam

Have you ever wanted to own the severed appendage of a Russian magician?  Well now you can!  Alex CF, self styled “cryptozoological scientific assemblage artist” has discovered some exhibits that would make Lovecraft sick with terror.  The man’s got a penchant for the occult, curating a collection of oddities ranging from mummified fairies to infant lycanthropes.  Each specimen includes supporting documentation, photographs, and anatomic drawings, likely the life’s work of some macabre scientists whose deranged research pushed them past the limits of earthly sanity.

We're Back!

by Dave

After a overly long hiatus, for various reasons, we’ll be (make that a royal we, I can’t make promises for others) back posting on a regular basis. I’ve managed to place myself back in school for at least another year so I’ll have the time to keep you up to date on the things we do.

Remember to add our RSS feed or follow us @convoke to keep up to date.

Wanting, as always, to keep our readership informed of new developments on the zombie scene, I bring you this strip from Tony Carrillo. Originally posted on F-Minus, his web comic, it has also been co-opted into a T-shirt. Even vegetables aren’t safe anymore…

ROOM 4 RENT

by Adam

r4rrA little bit of blatant self-promotion here, but I need a roommate pretty badly.  “How badly?” you ask?  Let’s just say if I don’t find someone by May, I’m dead meat.  We’re a pretty laid back group of individuals, but there’s one aspect we won’t compromise on: absolutely no zombies.

None.

Zero.

I don’t care if you’re only 1/16th zombie on your mother’s side, you won’t be stepping foot inside my safehouse.

If you’re sure that you’re not undead, and you’re interested in a room in the London, Ontario area, check out this listing.

EDIT: Hi Kotaku!  Thanks to Luke for the gracious writeup.  I’ve had a few people email me, asking if I was serious.  This is a real advertisement for a real room.  No, we’re not all gamers, but everyone has a good sense of humour and can appreciate the joke.  I’m putting the sign up this morning.   I wonder how long it will be before somebody steals it?

Zombie Attack

by Dave

zombie-attack

Here at Convoke, we’re known for our love of zombies and tower defense.  So when we got to do both at the same time, we were instantly smitten. IUGO, iPhone/iPod Touch application designers, have created Zombie Attack, the digital embodiment of our deepest fantasy.  The ultimate goal is to protect your home, but you can lure the zombies away using your body as bait.

IUGO has created both a free and full version if their game, the free version limits you to only 1 type of tower, while the full version gives you access to a multitude of weapons to save the human race. The full version is only $1.99 and both are available at your local iTunes Store.

Looking 4 Love?

by Adam

L4D Survivors Valentine

Call me old fashioned, but nothing says “I love you” like giving away your pills when you’re at critical health.  Alexandria Neonakis, aka Beavotron, has created a set of Valentine’s day cards based on Valve’s zombie slaying co-op game Left 4 Dead.  Apparently, this is an annual endeavour.  On her website, you can see cards from previous years including Team Fortress 2, World of Warcraft, and Shadows of the Colossus.

She’s encouraged people to download and print them off, so let Boomer bile show that special someone how much you really care.
