Charles Chary, aka Paper Extravaganza, is one creative paper crafter. He crafts topographical map type paper installations out of nothing more than paper and glue. Scope out his entire set of works, as they vary in design and style. I really like this guy, reminds me of stalagmites and stalactites of some cozy bear cave.

Papercraft iPhone/iPod Stand

Bringing together both our love for technology and papercraft, Dessine Moi un Object has created this lovely iPod/iPhone stand. For those iPhone/iTouch owners out there it also works as a stand for landscape movie watching, and I also think this would work for a plethora of other smart phones, including android and the Palm Pre.

Take special care in choosing paper for this one; you’re going to want a heavier weight than your average copy paper. The full template is available at the link, so check it out and make your own (bonus points for adding a design to the blank paper first).

Spirograph Business Cards

These days business cards are a dime a dozen, literally. So, it has become customary to make a card that’s just a little but more, something that others will remember. Adafruit, of arduino fame (and possibly every other thing you’ve ever heard of from the maker faire) has just released these fun business cards. Their catch? Spirographs. Just pop out the pieces from the card, and doodle the rest of your day away. A great way to have yourself remembered.

I personally would add more info and remove the ruler and superfluous other shapes, but great idea nonetheless.

Folding Paper

I’m not sure exactly what to call this: “drawings” that emerge in the highlights and shadows caused by carefully creasing and folding paper? It might be closer to sculpture in terms of how the image is created, but whatever you want to call it, you have to recognize the talent needed to create these scenes. Simon Schubert has a surprisingly large collection of similar images which are all delightfully subtle.

Totem Poles

There’s a new craze sweeping the nation, totem poles! Dolly Oblong has wrangled together a set of artists to make some totem poles for her project. No word if any more designs are coming, but so far we have Shin Tanaka, Tougui, and Ben the Illustrator pitching in for the project. Grab them (and possibly future releases) here.

Bryan over at Paper Foldables has some great papercrafts for you all. One of his more recent ventures is Krang, the nemesis of the fighting quartet, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Just cut, fold, tape and you’ve your yourself a perfect action figure to plot the demise of them four pesky turtles.

Calling All Cars

Here’s something to make up for the lack papercraft that we’ve been featuring lately, something to get involved in. Artist Horrorwood has put out an open invitation to all papercraft artists and designers, to modify his original design.

Tougui has stepped up to the challenge with his character on the right and as more designers up the ante Horrorwood is posting them as they pile in.

Think you’ve got the chops to create your own racer? Take the challenge, but don’t forget to send it our way as well, we’d love to see what our readers can do.
