If you’ve ever wondered where the pictures at the top of CONVOKE come from, you’re about to get let in on a little secret.  The Commons is a project started by flickr in January of last year.  Heritage institutions from all over the world contribute photos to the pool so that users might assist in describing, identifying, and cataloguing the findings.  Best of all, every photo is public domain, so you can cut, copy, paste, and edit to your heart’s content.  There is some truly awesome stuff stashed in there, including what is likely the world’s best collection of beards.
