Rocket World Creature Hoodie

CREATURE HOODIE

I’m not sure how I feel about this hoodie on it’s own, but with the upcoming (Oct 16th) Where the Wild Things Are movie it seems at least it will be culturally relevant for a few weeks until the opening. You could even pair it with some face paint for a quick and easy Halloween costume (*Adam cringing*).

Just Chillin'

Let me start off by assuring you that this is a real thingThis photo was not staged or coordinated, nor was it taken on set.  What you’re looking at is not a classroom of Stormtroopers-in-training from another desperate Star Wars prequel, but rather a room full of stalwart Chinese cops enjoying some much needed R&R.  One of the most striking thing about this picture, is the caption that went along with it:

“Chinese police officers take a break in the lobby of the National Aquatics Center ahead of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.”

Now, I don’t have a lot of experience in military or para-military organizations, but where I’m from “take a break” does not mean “order yourselves by Citizen Number, starting with those whose factors can be expressed as the sum of two or more primes, while the Overmind thought drones resynch your memo-chrons.”  You can call me old fashioned, I guess.

The 1998 Problem

OK, a little different from our normal posts but I think you’ll enjoy. From what I understand this problem arose in the year 1998 and was posed as a mathematical problem for a student’s homework. This is how it works, by taking 1998 and only adding SYMBOLS to the numbers (as shown above) you must make every number from 1 to 100. The image above should allow you to understand what things you are allowed to do, but feel free to sound off in the comments if you’re confused. If you make it I expect feedback as I’m stumped on some.

(Apparently 0.9 repeating is defined as 1, or so I’m told)

Little Wars

It’s an oldie-goodie, but I won’t go on at length parroting other people’s encapsulations of H.G. Wells’ Little Wars. I’ll just say that if you’re hankering for some whimsical reading, nay, whimsy-laden documentation, about the creation of one of the first table top war games, do check it out.

The late Gary Gygax even put in a foreward in the most recent publication.

Alright?

This shit was formative.

KegWorks – Shuffleboard

I’ve always thought shuffleboard was the most overlooked bar game. Personally, I think it’s one of the best; it’s easy to play, easy to learn, and still provides hours of fun. This shuffleboard was made specifically for home use, at 9ft long you’re still going to need able space to put it, but I think this ones worth it.

Icebergs

iceberg

Canadian photographer David Burdney has compiled a collection of stunning, surreal, iceberg photographs, that, in my mind, shouldn’t even exist.  One would think that the photo above must be of some rare occurrence; a fluke.  Are these floating icy mammoths so bountiful that it’s possible to acquire an entire gallery of them?  The answer, is yes.
