The designers over at Kyle Bunting only use one medium to make their rugs: cow hides. And they use them well. The crush design, above, is just one of the great styles and colorways they’ve come up with.  They also do custom work.

Landscapes

Submitted by on February 25, 2009 Art

This video by Glenn Marshall is haunting.  The camera pans slowly over otherworldly rock formations as one of Ligeti’s vocal arrangements culminates in the background.  Landscapes were created in Terragen, which can not only render amazingly realistic scenery, but is free to download.  Marshall is no stranger to using computers to create art, but despite his choice of medium, his work has very obvious organic influences.

Here at Convoke, we’re known for our love of zombies and tower defense.  So when we got to do both at the same time, we were instantly smitten. IUGO, iPhone/iPod Touch application designers, have created Zombie Attack, the digital embodiment of our deepest fantasy.  The ultimate goal is to protect your home, but you can lure the zombies away using your body as bait.

IUGO has created both a free and full version if their game, the free version limits you to only 1 type of tower, while the full version gives you access to a multitude of weapons to save the human race. The full version is only $1.99 and both are available at your local iTunes Store.

NVDRS Tape MP3 Player

All kinds of reasons why disguising your mp3 player in a shell of obsolete technology is a good idea.

Comes with a usb connection, operated (and charged [!]) with a spool interface. This will of course come quite naturally to children of the mid-80s and older.

Those looking to buy are going to be disappointed though; the NVDRS tape is only conceptual right now. Keep your fingers crossed.

Stainless Steel Playing Cards

Considering what some jerks can do with standard, paper-based playing cards, these should be viewed with a tinge of terror.  Sit out of a few bar nights and poker games,  then re-enter the scene once you can afford to bring the right equipment. The only outstanding concern, aside from their obvious weaponization, is how tough these things must be to shuffle.

Reuben Margolin

Pictures can hardly do the work of Reuben Margolin justice;  you really need to see it at work.  Margolin says he draws inspiration from natural sources, but rendered in wood, string, and recycled carboard, his work is reminiscent of terrain or fluid modeling wireframes.

Video Game Wallpaper Remake

Submitted by on February 16, 2009 Art

Link to the Past

Orioto from deviantART has spent his time remaking scenes from classic video games into wallpapers for your desktop.  He’s done away with pixelated sprites in favour of smooth, shaded gamescapes oozing with atmosphere.  We barely even recognized the opening scene from A Link to the Past (above). Orioto has even made some of his work available at super high resolution (up to 5000 x 2813px), which makes them just big enough to print.
